Turkey Brine

November has been an extremely busy month. There were report cards and conferences, J's show and soccer tournament, and now Thanksgiving. Today I worked in J's classroom making a turkey dinner-lunch with the kids. Our turkey for tomorrow is already in a brine solution. I will take it out tonight because it shouldn't get too salty.

My old skating coach's daughter K was injured for sectionals last weekend so she did not qualify. That is a sad thing for S, who was hoping K could put 2008 Nationals on her applications for college. And K is applying early for Yale, which totally is freaking S (who went to the Olympics then Harvard) out. Seriously, I wish we all could have such problems! ; S knows this herself but is still sad.

The girls ended the soccer season well finally not losing some games. They even got first place in their division playing 'up.' Here's a picture of them warming up before the final match last weekend.

New toy possibly for me. Check it out. It's too much right now, but if the price comes down, I'm all over it.

Did I already mention my new skates? I got them custom made for ice dancing with a tiny blue 'M' monogram on each heel (who cares because I am not competing). And I have decided to go with the new lightweight blades... in blue, too. Nervous because supposedly they need a special clamp to have them sharpened and not all sharpeners have yet adjusted. But still, there is at least one guy who can do the job (in Oakland) and I can't wait to try them out. Everything should be ready in February in time for my birthday.

More

Here I was this summer, in Nassau. The Disney Cruise, remember? That was actually a hectic, not so restful vacation for me, but right now, I'd take it.

So wish I could be in a sunny beach chair somewhere.

I am about to see J's show. She was a hit last night, or so I hear.

Did I tell you about the big earthquake last week? It was the first one J has ever truly experienced. I had to pull her under the table since she didn't really know what to do.

Last night at school, we had Harry Potter night and it was kind of a bummer for J to miss that, but she had the show. Anyway, I am noting the evening now because we made 'butterbeer' for the kids: vanilla ice cream, cream soda, and a little butterscotch syrup. YUM! I've been addicted to root beet floats lately, but may have a new fix.

Monday I don't have to work but J has school so I am going to Harlick to get fitted for my new skates. Yahoo! They are going to so awesome. The first pair of Harlicks I ever got was when I was just seven or eight. I thought they were so cool, I slept with them next to my pillow. Really.

Because I love Wall Street, I have been trying to keep up with the turmoil lately. Charles Prince was removed and now Bob Rubin is now in charge of Citibank. As far as I am concerned, Mr. Rubin is THE MAN. This will be a great challenge for him and it will be interesting to see how he handles things. The guy at Morgan Stanley (?), O'Neal I think his name is, just got axed, too. All of this is related to subprime loans... Duh, just the name 'subprime' makes it sound like a losing proposition all around, but hey what do I know?

Root Beer Float

I am about to take J to opening night of her show. She is super-psyched and looks great in her costumes. Can't actually make it since I had a previously-planned function at school.

I am also in the middle of crocheting more hairbows for the soccer team, planning the team party, finishing report cards, meeting with parents for conferences, and getting ready to cook turkey.

So, to escape the stress, I have been reading Candace Bushnell's Lipstick Jungle and the NYT, and eating ice cream.

What a hedonist, no?
