OK I Love Gavin, Too

You have got love this guy who is willing to take a stand on tough issues... It will be interesting to see how his universal health care program develops.

Went to a fundraiser the other night that roasts local politicians and the political scene. Best part was schmoozing at the cocktail party outside the theater beforehand. Met a lot of new people and shook many hands (but of course!). A fairly well-known lobbyist kept calling me a Republican -- my supposed DGA was "my shawl" which in fact was a poncho. Oh please!

No Schedule

J's off with her dad this week, so I am missing her terribly, though it's been interesting to rediscover what "on my own time" means. There are no school bells, no practices to make, nothing really. I have been catching up on chores and other things here at home, but without deadlines and other constraints. I can even be spontaneous!

Going to watch the end of the World Cup game now, and then I might take a nap! This school year has been filled with changes, in and out the classroom, for both J and me. I am grateful for this time to decompress and regroup.

From A Student

*My teacher is Ms. M. First, she is so nice she gives us money for the auction. Second, she planned for us to go on a field trip to the county park. Third, she let us do the Teacher For A Day project. So, Ms. M is a nice teacher.*

This was just slightly edited.

Just Very Busy

J's had her soccer tournament this weekend. They played three games since yesterday: won one, lost one, tied one. Not sure how they'll end up in the rankings. . . there are only trophies for first and second place (out of four in the division).

It's also been the Festival weekend, so I've been running the drinks and making pizza Friday and Saturday nights. J's been playing the carnival games and riding the rides.

Slight job change: Moving to kinder next year and am excited about it. I did two years of kinder a while back, and of course, have tons of indirect experience as the child of a now retired kindergarten teacher. T's twin nephews are not going to Catholic school (a major revolution, really!) and instead coming to my public school (a dependent charter therefore with open enrollment). They'll likely be in my class. How fun is that?!

Off to J's Team Party at the Elks now. Also, BTW, Sam won last Tuesday, so he's now in a run-off. . .

Hell's Bells

I'm thinking of AC/DC. . .

My colleague's husband, the one with the brain tumor, is about to die. We tried to visit him today but he was asleep. . . just asleep. Just now had to drink a couple of glasses of vino tinto at the neighborhood Happy Hour. I am very sad.

Here is a picture J did from her school's art show. . .

It's owls circling.
